Cuje Bertram was an African American fiddler who frequently played with Burnett and Rutherford. The three would busk on the courthouse steps in Monticello. He never made any commercial recordings as the record companies were not interested in producing old time music for the “Race Record” market. Toward the end of his life, he did make several home recordings.
